Session: Serving with Care: Fiduciary Responsibilities, Legal Risk & Smart Governance

Serving on an association board comes with serious legal and ethical responsibilities, and fiduciary duty sits at the center of them all. In this interactive session, attorney Jonathan H. Katz, Esq. of Becker & Poliakoff will break down what fiduciary duty means for board members and how it applies to real-world governance, decision-making, and oversight.

Attendees will explore the core duties of care, loyalty, and obedience; common pitfalls that expose boards and associations to liability; and best practices for acting in the association’s best interest, even in challenging or contentious situations. Through practical examples, audience discussion, and live Q&A, this session is designed to demystify fiduciary duty and empower participants to serve with confidence and clarity.

Come prepared with your questions—this is a conversation, not a lecture.

Presenter: Jonathan H. Katz, Esq., Becker & Poliakoff
